Design Engineer

Position Summary

ANDRITZ is seeking a Design Engineer to support the design and development of refiner plates used in refining systems and mills. This role is responsible for creating and maintaining engineering designs based on customer performance requirements while ensuring form, fit, function, manufacturability, and compliance with company quality and safety standards.

Working closely with Product Management, Sales, Manufacturing, Engineering, CNC Operations, and customers, the Design Engineer will transform design concepts and performance requirements into detailed drawings, 3D models, and production-ready documentation. The position also offers opportunities for occasional customer interactions and off-site training.

Key Responsibilities

• Convert existing 2D refiner plate designs into accurate 3D models using Cimatron.
• Create and revise engineering drawings, specifications, prototypes, supporting documentation, pattern database records, and bills of materials.
• Prepare sales support materials, including inch-cut data and photo sheets.
• Coordinate design requirements with Manufacturing, Sales, Engineering, Product Management, CNC Operations, and customers.
• Maintain organized pattern and rigging files by family and pattern.
• Support pattern fabrication schedules and priorities.
• Review drawings created by other drafters using product-specific quality control checklists.
• Apply continuous improvement principles and best practices to design and drafting processes.
• Ensure all work complies with established quality, safety, and customer requirements.
• Participate in off-site training and occasional customer visits as needed.

Qualifications

Required

• Associate degree or trade school credential in Drafting, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Knowledge of CNC programming, Cimatron, AutoCAD, and pattern-making principles.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Project.
• Strong analytical, logical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong time management and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a cross-functional team environment.
• Commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.

Preferred

• Five (5) or more years of machine design or drafting experience.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position is primarily office-based but includes periodic exposure to manufacturing environments. Employees may encounter varying temperatures, noise, dust, fumes, welding operations, industrial magnets, and radio-controlled equipment.

The role requires the ability to:

• Sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, push, and pull.
• Climb stairs as needed.
• Routinely lift up to 50 pounds.
• Maintain sufficient vision, hearing, coordination, mobility, and manual dexterity to perform essential job functions.
• Work extended hours when business needs require.
• Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
