Position Summary
The Shipper/Receiver is responsible for receiving, inspecting, storing, and shipping parts, equipment, and materials used in the repair and service of machinery for the pulp and paper industry. This role ensures accurate inventory control, timely movement of materials, and safe handling of components to support efficient shop operations and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive incoming shipments and verify quantities, documentation, and condition of materials.
- Unload, inspect, and properly store parts, equipment, and supplies.
- Pick, pack, and prepare customer orders and repaired equipment for shipment.
- Coordinate shipments with carriers and prepare shipping documentation.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with cycle counts and inventory audits.
- Label and organize materials, parts, and work orders within the shop.
- Deliver materials and components to shop personnel as required.
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, cranes, or other material handling equipment safely.
- Inspect shipping and receiving areas to ensure cleanliness and organization.
- Communicate with vendors, carriers, and internal departments regarding shipments and deliveries.
- Assist with loading and unloading large industrial equipment and machine components.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to inventory management and material flow.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in shipping, receiving, warehousing, or industrial environments preferred.
- Experience working in a manufacturing, repair, service shop, or heavy industrial setting is an asset.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to read shipping documents, packing slips, and work orders.
- Basic computer skills and experience using inventory or ERP systems.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple shipments.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg) regularly.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach throughout the workday.
- Comfortable working around industrial equipment and machinery.
- Ability to work in a shop and warehouse environment.
Working Conditions
- Industrial service shop supporting the pulp and paper industry.
- Exposure to noise, dust, grease, and moving equipment.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Occasional overtime may be required to meet customer or operational requirements.
