Responsibilities/Task Description

  • Develop concepts for battery cell assembly machinery, ensuring alignment with technical and operational requirements.
  • Provide process and equipment expertise, supporting continuous improvement and technical robustness.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with engineering, product management, and other key stakeholders to ensure seamless technical integration.
  • Focus on knowledge transfer, transforming existing know‑how and applying established technologies to the current product portfolio.
  • Deliver technology support to the battery division, enabling effective implementation and optimization of existing solutions.
  • Integrate smoothly into an existing team, acting as a functional (non‑disciplinary) leader while supporting colleagues through expertise rather than authority.
  • Serve as a key contributor in a European, cross‑site team setup, ensuring close cooperation, mutual learning, and aligned technical development.
  • Prioritize sharing expertise, empowering team members, and fostering collaborative problem‑solving across locations.

Qualifications

Professional Background

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Automation Engineering.
  • Strong hands‑on engineering mindset – more technician/designer than manager; ideally a former Lead Designer / Head of Mechanical Design.
  • Proven track record in machine concept design, including creation and evaluation of mechanical concepts for high‑performance production systems.

Technical Expertise

Deep technical know‑how and practical experience in one or more of the following battery‑cell manufacturing process steps:

  • Notching
  • Stacking
  • Winding
  • Electrolyte filling
  • Cell packing

Additionally:

Experience designing machines and production equipment with focus on:

  • Design to Cost (cost‑conscious engineering decisions)
  • Optimized machine footprint (compact, efficient layouts)
  • Scalability and competitiveness (solutions that strengthen the company’s competitive position)

Industry Experience

  • Recent, hands‑on involvement in designing, executing, or commissioning projects with gigascale battery cell manufacturers (Gigafactories).

Skills & Capabilities

  • Ability to translate technical requirements into robust, efficient mechanical concepts.
  • Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills in complex production environments.
  • Comfortable working in cross‑functional engineering teams.
  • English-speaking; optional English course/training can be offered to strengthen communication skills if required.

  • Highly practical, implementation-driven mindset.
  • Strong ownership mentality, high attention to detail.
  • Willingness to challenge existing solutions and push for continuous improvement.
  • Prefers to be “close to the machine” rather than in a purely managerial role.
