General Description
Reporting to the Plant Manager, this position is responsible for assisting with creating and communicating the overall safety and environmental program while identifying applicable regulations and risks in the Plant. The position will closely interact with Operations, Legal, HR, and other staff functions to help ensure compliance for the plant.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
- Works closely with functional leaders to develop, implement, and maintain a written workplace EHS Program at the plant.
- Assists with establishing and implementing EHS programs to assure the highest possible degree of workplace safety for employees. contractors, and guests while enabling us to reach our business goals
- Conducts or directs efforts to identify hazards thru Industrial Hygiene monitoring to evaluate the safety of company systems and processes. Prepare clear concise reports of findings with recommendations for corrective actions including associated cost analysis
- Serves as a resource for administering required training thru the company’s On-line Learning Management System.
- Assist in the management of incident investigations, reporting, recordkeeping, and metrics evaluation including customer generated information requests.
- Facilitate regular workplace and equipment inspections and audits including accurate documentation and timely closure of corrective actions
- Assists with establishing clear and visible safety and environmental awareness efforts at the local plant site level
- Develops and implements appropriate emergency response systems in conjunction with the local plant site
- Assist location management with general EHS related activities, reviews, and initiatives to support implementation and improvement. Heavy concentration in assuring plant has documented procedures that meet corporate and regulatory requirements
- As necessary, represent the business in contacts and meetings with customers and regulatory authorities
- Partners with site leadership to implement pollution prevention programs at the local level
- Manage environmental processes to assure proper waste management and minimization practices in accordance with RCRA and TSCA regulatory requirements.
- Manage environmental processes to assure proper surface and ground water management (i.e. permitting, treatment, etc) and spill and contingency planning are in compliance with Clean Water Act regulatory requirements. Complete permit applications, periodic reviews, and required reporting.

- Performs other duties and projects as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Engineering, EHS, or related field.
- Experience: 7-10+ years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the paper industry.
- Languages: English
- Ability to work independently as well as in group settings.
- Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and lift < 35
- Able to prioritize, multi-task and problem solve
- Must have strong Knowledge of EHS Regulations & Program requirements, OSHA 30 certification
- CSP, CPEA, CIH, CHMM or equivalent certifications is strongly desired. ISO 45001 experience a plus.
- Proficiency using standard business software such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- May be required to attend professional development classes/seminars to maintain proficiency for safety and environmental compliance
