Summary:
Sets up and operates a variety of CNC and manual grinding, milling, lathe and planer machines, fits and/or assembles parts by performing the following duties.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•    Uses knife grinder, lathe, miller, planer, measuring and other equipment to perform job.
•    Studies blueprints, sketches, machine parts or specifications to grind, machine or assemble parts.
•    Must be able to machine long parts with accuracy
•    Performs preventative maintenance to maintain and lubricate machine tools and equipment 
•    Inspects work and completes inspection forms.
•    Handles materials as necessary, loading and unloading
•    Maintains an organized and clean work area.
•    Provides in-house shop support as directed by supervisor

 

Education/Experience:
One-year certificate from college or technical school; five or more year’s related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and outdoor weather conditions.  Workspace is not air-conditioned.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and smell.
