We are currently seeking an Engineering Lead – Electrical & Controls to join our growing, Nanaimo, BC team. Responsibilities may include but are not necessarily limited to the following:

  • Provide project management, leadership, and technical guidance to a team of engineers and project stakeholders;
  • Assign, coordinate, and review the technical work of project teams;
  • Oversee project coordination to ensure accurate billing, time accounting, and financial reporting;
  • Consult and negotiate with customers to prepare specifications, explain proposals, and present engineering reports;
  • Assist with large capital project development, including feasibility studies, project scope definitions, preliminary engineering designs, and capital cost estimates;
  • Prepare and evaluate tender and construction packages;
  • Audit industrial facilities and develop preliminary engineering designs and estimates for electrical and control system upgrades;
  • Lead the completion of electrical, control and instrumentation system design including P&ID drawings, control system architecture, MV and LV electrical power systems and instrumentation systems;
  • Oversee and/or participate in the design, programming and configuration DCS and PLC/HMI applications;
  • Oversee and/or participate in system checkouts, testing, and commissioning;
  • Build, lead and develop a team of professionals; including recruitment and selection, training, and performance management;
  • Network with industry groups and professional organizations to establish the presence and reputation of the Company;
  • Ensure that the activities adhere to the quality standards established by the Company;
  • Embody, demonstrate, and reinforce the ANDRITZ values.


 When selecting candidates, we will be looking for the following essential skills, abilities, and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in electrical engineering;
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in industrial automation engineering, preferably in consulting;
  • Registered, or eligible for immediate registration with EGBC or ASTTBC;
  • Site audit, commissioning, construction, and start-up experience;
  • Proven ability to successfully manage and deliver electrical/controls projects;
  • Experience in pulp & paper, mining, and/or chemical industries;
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills (English);
  • Practical knowledge of North American standards;
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada;
  • Ability and willingness to travel to domestic and international sites (typically 5-20%).
