General Description

 

The Vulcanizer Operator must perform a skilled level of work in scheduling and completing roll cures.    Assignments are received in the form of written instructions through the schedule board and the plant factory order. Work methods and procedures are determined by company policy thru the SPI manual.   On the job training will be provided that meets these specification and requirements and the employee is expected to maintain these standards after completion of training period.

 

Job Responsibilties and Tasks

 

Essential Functions:

  • Basic knowledge of vulcanization equipment

      

       Knowledge of:

  • Job related materials.
  • The tools, materials, methods, and standard practices of the vulcanizers.
  • The hazards and safety precautions of operating moving equipment.

                                                 

Ability to:

  • Learn to work from the factory order and follow instructions.
  • Gather factory orders from the days covering and review cures.
  • Get with supervision at the beginning of the shift to discuss available cures.
  • Check the roll weight, select proper cables for lifting roll. Work with overhead cranes.
  • Check serial number stamped on roll against the factory order.
  • Check for clear and proper size vent holes.
  • Apply end plates or clay per factory order.
  • Load with proper tilt per SPI.
  • Be mindful of clearance under and around rolls.
  •  Maximize loading for efficient operation.
  •  Grease and cover machined surfaces to prevent corrosion.
  •  Connect RIS hose for proper cure based on factory order instructions.
  •  Push in or pull out loaded carts.
  •  Mark “North” on all rolls removed from vessels.
  •  Start cures in the computer based on factory order specifications.
  •  Complete all required paperwork.
  •  Observe trends during your shift and sign log sheet every hour.

 

             

Additional Requirements:      

  • Maintain clean and safe work area.
  •  Perform any other tasks as required by supervision
  • Overtime hours may be required.

 

 Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

  • Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 50 pounds or standing and /or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.

 

Qualification Requirements

 

  • Education: High School Diploma
  • Experience: On the job training will be provided since the vulcanization process can vary due to product line and production environment.
  • Languages: English
