General Description

The Mill Room Operators are responsible for all rubber materials for the NH Plant. Assignments are received in the form of written instructions through the schedule board and the plant work/stock cards.   Work methods and procedures are determined by company policy thru the SPI manual.   On the job training will be provided that meets these specification and requirements and the employee is expected to maintain these standards after completion of training period.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

 Essential Functions:

  • Basic knowledge of operating a mixing mill

     

      Knowledge of:

  • Job related materials.
  • The tools, materials, methods, and standard practices of the milling process.
  • The hazards and safety precautions of operating moving equipment.

                 

Ability to:

  • Must become familiar with all of the compounds offered in our product line.
  • Must learn to use the scales and accurately weigh rubber as listed for blending.
  • Must have knowledge of the importance of cleanliness required to ensure the best product possible.
  • Must be able to keep and maintain an inventory log for material left over from jobs.
  • Must be able to follow written mixing instructions.
  • Must be able to handle up to 150 pounds (not lift).
  • Must be able to match QC card to batch ticket before mixing each batch. Obtain written mixing instructions for the compound being worked on.
  • Obtain the QC card for the compound being worked on.
  • Transfer schold tub with rubber to the mill.
  • Record temperature of the mill rollers on the QC card.
  • Band rubber on mill as per written instructions.
  • Let rubber run as per written instructions.
  • Slowly add the materials from the Schold tub to the rubber as per written instructions.
  • Once all of the materials from the Schold tub have been added, crosscut and end pass as per written instructions.
  • Sheet rubber off as per written instructions. Double sheeting is typically not allowed.
  • Mark the compound number on each sheet.
  • Mark the first sheet with the serial number, compound number, date, and batch number on the last sheet.
  • Cut out QC button and cure once a sufficient number have been gathered.
  • Perform a dispersion check on the lab mill.
  • Once the job is completed, mark the “job ticket” as complete.

Additional Requirements:      

  • Must be able to work well with others.
  • Will be required to participate in inventory twice a year.
  • Maintain oil and grease levels in the mills.
  • Maintain clean and safe work area.
  •  Perform any other tasks as required by supervision
  • Overtime hours may be required.

 Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

  • Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 50 pounds or standing and /or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: High School Diploma
  • Experience: On the job training will be provided since the vulcanization process can vary due to product line and production environment.
  • Languages: English
