ANDRITZ Metals USA

 

ANDRITZ Metals USA designs and builds equipment for the processing of carbon steel, stainless steel, and non-ferrous metal including pickling lines, coating lines, levelers, cut to length lines, slitting lines as well as continuous or batch furnaces for reheating slabs, blooms, billets, and structural shapes. We specialize in supplying knives for metal processing equipment including shear blades, slitting knives and slitting spacers.  We also provide mill and coil processing equipment rebuild and retrofit.  Additionally we provide service parts and roll and knife regrind services for rolling mills and strip processors and provide a wide range of mechanical and electrical components for ANDRITZ equipment, as well as for many other brands in the industry. 

 

The Role

Under the direction of the Plant Manager , the Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for performing site contract review, quality planning and production planning related duties.  Determining and developing routings, BOMs and cost estimates in SAP and monitoring the same through the production processes.  Maintaining effective production standards and applying lean manufacturing principles to optimize operations.  Meeting or exceeding customer service levels by the planned management of the supplier base, inventory, manpower and equipment utilization. Championing the RKH quality control and safety functions at RKH.

 

Requirements

Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Key Result Items

  • Creates manufacturing plans, routing, Bill of Materials, and cost estimates in SAP
  • Reviews and establishes engineered standards; through sustainable methods, tooling and training initiatives, assists Production Department to perform at better than standard times.
  • Creates production orders for shop manufacturing
  • Manage the approved raw material and major sub-contractor vendor base.  Identify and qualify new vendors and perform audits as required.
  • Obtains and processes certification of delivery, conducts check against purchase orders, reviews and signs off on supplier inspection reports and checks and approves the invoices for payment.
  • Recommends proper utilization of machines, tools and equipment based on lean manufacturing principles.
  • Applies and recommends best engineering practices to optimize operations and minimize waste.
  • Participates with production management to assure accuracy of standards to minimize efficiency variances.
  • Serves as site ISO quality control coordinator.  Performs internal audits of operations and sub-contractors.  Works closely with corporate quality management.
  • Lead plant project initiatives as needed for continual performance.
  • Manages and maintains the gage calibration system.
  • Participates in the recruitment and selection of subordinate staff.  Manages, trains, schedules and monitors subordinate staff.
  • Directs the RKH safety initiative through the chairmanship of the safety committee, performs monthly safety inspections and conducts associate safety training. Performs ISO 45001 internal audits and supports related initiatives and compliance activities.
  • Performs SAP Key User responsibilities (i.e. training and support).
  • Assists Plant Manager – Rock Hill in achieving company goals.

 

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of basic industrial / manufacturing engineering principles.
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Office), to include CAD and ERP experience (SAP preferred).
  • Knowledge of machine shop operations (i.e. chip making, grinding, lapping, and heat-treating).
  • Skill in blueprint reading and knowledge of GDT.
  • Knowledge of production scheduling and production planning.
  • Understanding of purchasing procedures, terms and conditions, and proficiency with respect to negotiated buying.
  • Knowledge and ability to schedule/expedite deliveries to meet customer requirements.
  • Ability to communicate at local and corporate levels
  • Ability to work under general supervision and take independent action.
  •  Knowledge of safety and health program requirements and regulations, especially ISO 45001.
  • Previous experience with 5S methodologies preferred.
  • Knowledge of quality management principals and requirements of ISO 9001.
  • Metallurgy education or experience with heat treat preferred.

Education and Experience

  • Undergraduate Degree, preferably in Engineering and five years of experience in manufacturing, plant or machine shop environments or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
