Summary:

Reporting to the Regional Sales Manager, this position is responsible for providing technical support to area customers in close cooperation with local Application Sales Engineers in order to identify, communicate and pursue sales opportunities of Stowe Woodward and Mount Hope products.

Job Responsibilities:

• Conducts paper machine audits and service calls as scheduled by the Regional Sales Manager in close cooperation with local Application Sales Engineers.

• Ensures customer needs are defined and addressed in a timely manner.

• Conducts paper machine shutdown inspections and prepares onsite reports as scheduled by the Regional Sales Manager in close cooperation with local Application Sales Engineers.

• Conducts nip impressions as required, and analyzes and prepares onsite reports.

• Troubleshoots customer roll problems and provides and/or helps implement appropriate solutions.

• Mitigates warranty exposure through early detection and prevention of potential problems.

• Assists paper mills to set up proper roll-keeping records and comprehensive preventative maintenance programs.

• Monitors paper machine operating parameters such as water cooling and roll surface temperatures, etc.

• Helps the local Application Sales Engineer build and maintain comprehensive databases on customer roll cover, bowed roll and mechanical specifications, installation and roll life information and rebuild/recover information.

• Conducts Gamma Gauge water balance studies, thermal audits and other tests of operating paper machines.

• Conducts “press optimization studies” of area paper machines to enhance paper machine productivity and increase Stowe Woodward roll cover sales.

• Searches out and recommends new cover and bowed roll applications.

• Prepares brief call report on each paper mill visit, including the contact information and purpose of each trip, and sends to Application Sales Engineer and Regional Sales Manager.

• Communicates field activity, including sales opportunities, inter-company items and competitive issues to the appropriate Regional Sales Manager.

• Prepares monthly summary report to the Regional Sales Manager outlining highlights of the previous month, a forecast of the requirements of the following month, areas of opportunity in the field, plant issues, and competitive issues/gossip.

• Communicates roll-covering or bowed roll opportunities to the Application Sales Engineer.

• Relieves Application Sales Engineers during vacation.

• Manages an expense budget within the guidelines provided (customer entertainment is light).

• Performs other job-related functions as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Degree preferred in Engineering or Business and/or extensive maintenance, production or sales experience within the paper or other related applicable industry. Requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a proven mechanical aptitude, and a strong entrepreneurial drive. Strong computer skills including solid understanding of Word, Excel and general database management. Extensive travel required within the assigned region.
