The Mechanical Balance of Plant Estimator, reporting to the BOP Engineering Manager, supports the proposal team in securing bids for large-scale hydroelectric projects. This position is responsible for developing accurate cost estimates for piping system and mechanical auxiliary equipment, from procurement through site installation. The estimator actively contributes to developing strategies for cost-effective estimation practices aligned with the company’s bidding process and adopts a client-focused approach to deliver estimates meet pricing expectations and project objectives.
The following responsibilities form the core of this role in our Canadian team.
• Interpret technical specifications to define supply and installation requirements and ensure compliance with bid documents.
• Conduct detailed research to determine accurate pricing for equipment, labor and materials
• Review project scope to ensure all technical specifications, subcontractor scopes, and general conditions are addressed.
• Prepare material take off using reference drawings
• Establish site installation methods and strategies
• Prepare RFQ (price requests) for equipment and specialized subcontractors.
• Occasionally participate in site visits.
• Contributes to preparing the project schedule and associated overhead plans.
• Deliver internal and external presentations of proposals and estimates.
• Identify and quantify project risks and opportunities.
• Continuously improve estimating standards, procedures, and tools, and promote best practices.
• Support projects as needed with estimates for additional work

• 5 to 10 years of experience in the cost estimation for industrial projects.
• Fluency in English and French, both spoken and written.
• Strong knowledge of piping systems.
• Solid understanding of the construction industry.
• Familiarity with the hydroelectric industry (asset).
• Experience with EPC (Engineering Procurement, and Construction) projects (asset).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Proficiency in MS Project or Primavera software (asset).
• General knowledge of other disciplines such as Electrical and Civil engineering (asset).
