The Hydro Field Engineering team’s main mandate is technical governance for all site activities with the goal of enabling site teams to achieve Technical Excellence.

 

More specifically, the hydro field engineer is responsible for technical preparation, documentation, and support for the installation works.

 

The Hydro Field Engineer will have the opportunity to learn and work on all products Andritz Hydro installs on sites such as Turbine-Generator units, Gates, Main Inlet Valves, Automation, etc. 

 

The following responsibilities form the core of this role in our Canadian team.

 

During the project’s preparation and planning phase:

•    Review the technical specifications of the contract;
•    Actively contributes to design reviews and propose changes to reduce installation challenges, improve safety and quality as well as reduce risks, cycle, and cost of installation;
•    Technical governance and customer relations on Field technical matters;
•    Ensure on-time production and submittal of Field Technical documentation;
•    Analyze, determine the needs and lead the design efforts for special tooling including: 
     o    Cribbing plans; 
     o    Rigging plans; 
     o    Handling and installation tools.

During the project’s execution phase:
•    Enhance Field Service team technical excellence through technical support, training and mentoring on best practices, calculations, etc.;
•    Participate in technical training of site teams;
•    Review and/or execute analysis and installation calculations;
•    Provide support for the site teams regarding technical issues or challenges;
•    Collaborate on resolving complex problems;
•    Participate in the lessons learned process;
•    Contribute to the implementation of technical improvements recommended by Design Engineering or the field service teams. 

General – not project specific: 
•    Document technical expertise and best practices;
•    Contribute to the Generator Stator Winding Training Center.

•    Bachelor’s degree in mechanical Engineering; 
•    Member of Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec (or with possibility to become); 
•    3 to 5 years of experience in hydroelectric turbine-generator installation or design; 
•    Be available for short visits on project sites in Canada and overseas; 
•    Must be fluent in French and English for site work across Canada; 
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.); 
•    CAD Software knowledge; 
•    Excellent interpersonal skills, teamwork skills and autonomy; 
•    Ability to multitask and shift between many different projects and initiatives with tight deadlines; 
•    Strong customer (internal and external) service orientation; 
•    Knowledge of electrical and controls considered an asset; 
•    Commissioning experience/awareness is an asset.
