Summary of the role
The Project Management Director is ultimately responsible for the proper completion of the Hydro project portfolio under his / her supervision, completed on schedule, on budget and to customer’s satisfaction. With his / her team, these responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Manage and coach a team of Project Managers and System Engineers.
- Perform workload forecasts to allocate Project resources efficiently across the project portfolio.
- Organize and monitor interconnected projects to achieve strategic objectives.
- Structure the launch of new projects, set financial objectives, and define operating strategies with the Project Manager.
- Coordinate activities across different projects to ensure they are aligned and contribute to the overall business goals.
- Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize their impact on the portfolio, as well as perform opportunity evaluations taking into account the entire portfolio.
- Engage with department / functional managers to ensure alignment, coordinate priority activities, and resolve critical issues across the different functions based on overall portfolio view.
- Escalate critical issues to senior management.
- Lead commercial negotiations on larger claims.
- Drive continuous improvement by analyzing program outcomes and implementing lessons learned to enhance future performance.
- Handle special projects as assigned.

- Engineer/Technologist or equivalent experience;
- Minimum of 15 years’ experience in the field of Hydro or heavy metal fabrication and related manufacturing activities;
- Experience in the management and leading of direct reports;
- Experience with on site/construction activities;
- Proven experience and accomplishments related to the efficient management of projects with a dynamic and an accelerated schedule;
- Proven leadership and team spirit, innovative;
- Proven negotiation skills to handle project changes and claims resolution;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and French;
- Ability to multitask and shift between many different projects and initiatives with tight deadlines;
- Strong professionalism and tact in representing the company to our internal and external customers;
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office;
- Availability to travel, as necessary.
