The team is responsible for the design of large hydro generator components, with a primary focus on North American generator projects. This team is located at the Andritz Peterborough Generator Center, which includes a modern coil and bar manufacturing facility. This position includes technical responsibility for the layout and detailing of mechanical components within a hydro generator. The unique requirements of each hydro project make this a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a candidate with related skills and experience.
The Designer is expected to work closely with the local engineering and drafting teams, as well as externally located engineering specialists, project management, manufacturing and installation teams. Occasional travel to customer locations, project sites or other Andritz offices is required.
Individual duties will vary based on project requirements, but generally include the following:
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
- Creating technical 3D models and associated 2D drawings of components to meet project specifications from available source information (i.e. layouts, schematics, standards, sketches, written or oral instructions);
- Developing detailed parts lists for the components;
- Verifying drawings and parts bills ensuring good quality and conformity to customer technical specifications and internal design standards;
- Directing or providing assistance, checking the work of others, and directing others on specific projects.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Mechanical Technician diploma or equivalent;
- 2+ years’ experience in mechanical detailed design for hydro applications preferred;
- Prior work experience using 3D CAD software, experience with Unigraphics preferred;
- Self-starter with ability to work in a team environment;
- Result-oriented individual;
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to details;
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (ex. Access, Excel, Word, etc.);
- High sense of urgency and a strong customer focus.
