Our Automation & Digitalization division currently seeks an experienced Electrical Project Engineer or Technologist to join our North American team. This position is responsible for the design, development, and delivery of high quality, innovative electrical engineering projects that improve plant productivity, reliability, and sustainability for our North American customers.

 

We are flexible on the location of this position! Although this opportunity is advertised for our Nanaimo, BC, office, we would welcome the right candidate to any of our North American locations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Responsibilities may include, but are not necessarily limited to the following:

  • Design, develop and deliver electrical projects from inception to completion, ensuring that all project objectives are met on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Work with relevant stakeholders to develop project scopes, timelines, and budgets.
  • Audit industrial facilities and develop preliminary engineering designs and estimates for electrical upgrades.
  • Design industrial MV and LV electrical power systems, including electrical room design, equipment specifications, motor control and grounding systems, and cable and raceway sizing and layouts.
  • Perform protection and control systems design and settings.
  • Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, and start-up phases, and assist with troubleshooting as required.
  • Participate in project meetings, provide progress updates, and report on project status.
  • Coordinate with others, including customers, contractors, and vendors, to ensure that project requirements are met.
  • Manage project documentation, including drawings, specifications, and project reports.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, cost-benefit analyses, risk assessments, and other analyses as required.
  • Prepare and evaluate tender and construction packages, including electrical and instrumentation drawings, installation specifications, and other supporting documentation.
  • Ensure that project designs comply with ANDRITZ standards as well as electrical codes, laws, and regulations.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers and technicians.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

When selecting candidates, we will be looking for the following essential skills, abilities, and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or technology diploma in electrical engineering
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in industrial electrical engineering
  • Resourceful, self-managed, and goal driven but still able to work effectively in a team
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills (English)
  • Registered as an EIT or P.Eng., or AScT in British Columbia
  • Practical knowledge of North American codes and standards
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Ability and willingness to travel to domestic and international sites (typically 5-20%)

 

Other valued, but non-essential skills, abilities, and experience include:

  • Consulting engineering experience
  • Experience in pulp & paper
  • Site audit, commissioning, construction, and start-up experience
