Purpose Statement

The Process Development Engineer will have responsibility of evaluating existing companywide processes and configuring manufacturing systems to reduce cost, improve sustainability and develop best practices within the production process while utilizing Lean Manufacturing concepts. This position has been developed to drive our growth in operations.

 

  • Job Responsibilities & Tasks (include but not limited to)
  • Work cross functionally to design and develop processes throughout the organization to optimize efficient process flow, reduce process or product variability, improve process capability, and improve employee safety.
  • Work with both the Engineering Manager and Quality Manager to identify deficiencies, develop and implement process change such as fixture redesigns, CNC program modifications, pattern modification / redesign, changes to work instructions etc.
  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing knowledge and train staff as required to ensure procedure adherence and understanding. Assist with gating and riser of refiner plates for cost improvement with assistance of Engineering Manager,
  • Design and fabricate fixtures for production. Create CNC programs for multiple CNC machines.
  • Utilize 3D / 2D CAD CAM software

 

Education, professional experience, and qualification preferred/required

  • Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Metallurgical or Industrial Engineering, plus 1-5 years of machining or machine shop experience.
  • Proven Process Development experience in a manufacturing environment utilizing Lean Manufacturing concepts.
  • Expert level of computer systems to include Microsoft Excel, CAD and manufacturing systems.
  • Must be proficient in the use of measuring and calibration equipment. 
  • High level of problem solving skills is absolutely necessary.
  • Creative thinking for the best optimization of equipment and processes.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, team management, interpersonal skills, and ability to resolve problems on a professional level.

 

Physical and Mental Qualifications

Environment: Exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels, dust, dirt, fumes, welding machines, heavy duty magnets and manual/remote controlled devices using radio signals.  Physical conditions for position:  Sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, push, pull, kneel, stoop, crouch, climb, ascend/descend stairs, lifting up to 25 lbs.  Must have visual acuity, excellent mobility, good hearing, manual dexterity, good balance, ability to endure long hours, and wear required personal protective equipment.  All tasks performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
