General Description

  • Under the general direction of the Plant Head, the incumbent is responsible maintenance and troubleshoot of Powerhouse Control & Protection system of the Plant.
  • The ideal candidate will be constantly assessing the systems in place to ensure that they are both safe and operating efficiently.
  • This candidate will be comfortable managing a team (if required) and conducting analysis to highlight areas for improvement.
  • Thie ideal candidate should have experience in Operation & Maintenance of Hydro power plants / Pump Storage Plant of  atleast 100 MW capacity.
  • The candidate should be experience in maintenance and troubleshoot of Powerhouse Control & Protection Equipment in Hydro power plants / Pump Storage Plant of  atleast 100 MW capacity.

WHAT YOU’LL DO: Write the purpose for which the job exists

  • Prepare detailed resources for each activity of powerhouse protection & automation equipment within the limits and reasonable backup, prepare the division of work among the group of supervisors.
  • Prepare risk assessment and action plan for every activity of maintenance of Contro & Protection equipments / systems, get confirmed by EHS representative and review.
  • Execution for annual, monthly, and daily, the detailed resources of each activity of protection & automation maintenance of plant.
  • Timely completion of planned maintenance activities.
  • Carry out condition-based monitoring of equipment and plan maintenance accordingly.
  • Planning of critical spares for ensuring 100% machine availability.
  • Troubleshooting of breakdown by carrying out root cause analysis and take corrective/preventive action accordingly.
  • Coordinate with LDC’s, client & sub-contractors for outage planning and respond to client & LDC’s queries.
  • Coordinate with various department within ANDRITZ for resolving issues related to Power plant.
  • Coordinate with vendors / OEMs for getting offers of spares and expert services.
  • Conduct technical / behavioral / safety trainings for client, sub-contractors, technicians, etc.
  • Preparation of SOPs and Local Operating procedures for assigned systems.
  • Plans and coordinates plant maintenance and inventory requirements as required to maximize plant availability and optimize cost effectiveness.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate plant documentation (maintenance checklist, observation sheet, preventive maintenance plan etc.), to assure proper historical records and reporting of plant maintenance is completed.
  • Preparation and review of root cause analysis reports, tripping report, annual maintenance report, monthly MIS etc.
  • Manage a work force that is motivated, flexible in skills, cross-trained and technically astute ensuring an effective and motivated team.

YOU’RE GOOD AT: Write the details of the core area of expertise required to possess by the candidate. 

  • Technical Expertise:
    • Deep knowledge of ABB MEGADRIVE-LCI (Load Commutated Inverter) systems and associated power electronics.
    • Strong understanding of static frequency converters (SFC) and their applications in high-power motors and compressors.
    • Expertise in power electronics, including thyristor-based converters and inverter technology used in LCI drives.
    • Experience with integrating LCI systems with high-voltage motors, transformers, and auxiliary systems.
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving:
    • Proficient in analyzing complex system data and diagnosing issues in power conversion and motor drive systems.
    • Ability to troubleshoot faults in LCI systems, including control circuits, power electronics, and communication protocols.
  • Software & Tools:
    • Proficiency in using ABB’s control and configuration tools for LCI drives, such as DriveManager or equivalent.
    • Familiarity with PLC, SCADA, and industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP).
  • Operation & Monitoring:
    • Monitor the performance of LCI drives during operation, ensuring optimal efficiency and reliability.
    • Perform data analysis on drive parameters (e.g., speed, torque, voltage) and suggest improvements to optimize performance.
    • Interface with PLC, SCADA, and other control systems to ensure proper communication and data logging for LCI operations.
  • Troubleshooting & Fault Diagnosis:
    • Diagnose and troubleshoot faults in the LCI drive systems, identifying issues related to power electronics, control circuits, or communication failures.
    • Analyze protection trips, abnormal operation, and component failures, and implement corrective measures to reduce downtime.
    • Coordinate with experts for advanced troubleshooting and firmware upgrades or system modifications as required.
  • Maintenance & Upgrades:
    • Lead or participate in preventive and corrective maintenance of the MEGADRIVE-LCI systems.
    • Propose and implement system upgrades, including software updates and hardware replacements, to improve the performance and reliability of SFC systems.
    • Maintain an inventory of critical spare parts for LCI systems, such as power modules, control cards, and cooling system components.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    • Prepare and maintain detailed documentation for LCI systems, including wiring diagrams, control schematics, operating manuals, and maintenance records.
    • Generate regular reports on the performance of LCI drives, including efficiency analysis, downtime reports, and recommendations for system improvements.
  • Safety & Compliance:
    • Ensure that all LCI system installations and maintenance activities comply with relevant local and international safety standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE).
    • Perform risk assessments and ensure adherence to electrical safety protocols, particularly for high-voltage systems and hazardous environments.
  • Training & Support:
    • Provide technical support and training to operations and maintenance teams on the operation and troubleshooting of LCI systems.
  • Safety-Oriented:
    • Deep understanding of electrical safety practices, particularly with regard to high-power inverter systems and high-voltage equipment.

 

YOU BRING: Experience & Qualifications (Provide information about knowledge required to delve into this role)

  • Minimum Qualification: Regular B.E. / B Tech in Electrical Engineering / Electrical & Electronics Engineering / Instrumentation Engineering from reputed government, private, autonomous institiute recognised under AICTE, New Delhi.
  • Overall 08 - 12 years of experience in a hydro power plant out of which a minimum 03 - 05 years' of experience in maintenance of protection & automation equipments / systems of not less than 100 MW capacity.
  • Should have experience of erection / commissioning / maintenance in hydro power plants of 100 MW capacity.
  • Adept at managing maintenance of various equipments for reducing downtime and enhancing operational effectiveness of equipment.

PREFERRED: Information about the knowledge required for the job which is not mandatory to possess.
