At our location in Graz or any other ANDRITZ location in Europe we are looking for a Material Expert (m/f/d) with a special focus on metallic materials to strenghen our Group Quality & Safety Management team.
Your tasks
Material consultancy and failure analysis
- Your focus will be to support ANDRITZ managers and engineers with in-depth knowledge in the field of stainless steel, low alloy steel and other metallic materials. By understanding the requirements derived from ANDRITZ machines and processes, you will support with expertise in alloy design, properties and manufacturing.
- You will provide expert consultation, particularly in the fields of corrosion, material selection and questions with regards to metallurgy of materials.
- You will conduct material failure analyses to determine root causes, and you will propose mitigation strategies.
- You will support quality engineers in issuing technical delivery rules and dealing with non-conformities.
- Your role will also involve planning and executing material projects in alignment with R&D and engineering managers. You will work in interdisciplinary teams to develop innovative, comprehensive technical solutions.
- You will collaborate closely with national and international material research and testing institutes.
Technical consultancy
- FMEA: Get prepared to moderate FMEA’s for projects that need to run an FMEA prior to start the Digital Approval according to our Quotation Review Policy. GQS will be challenged with a rising demand for Moderation as FMEA’s are now becoming mandatory for certain project profiles. You will take over a share of those moderations once the training is completed.
- Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Identify the fundamental reasons why a problem or event occurred, instead of just addressing the symptoms. You will assist the ANDRITZ organization in performing RCAs and, if necessary, actively participate within your field of expertise.
- Promote communication: R&D Services has to demonstrate its business impact and relevance to increase the overall Quality of ANDRITZ Group. You will be asked to prepare Best
- Practice and Success Stories, that R&D Services publishes on its Sharepoint.
Your profile
- Master’s degree in Material Science or Metallurgy and ideally a PhD to demonstrate your capabilities to solve complex tasks.
- Experience in alloy design, microstructure-property relationships and manufacturing of stainless and low alloy steel. Expertise in other metallic materials welcome.
- Knowledge of corrosion mechanisms in metallic materials as well as expertise in planning and conducting corrosion experiments.
- Willingness and ability to work in interdisciplinary teams.
- Good level of English and German, written and spoken. Other languages are a plus.
- Strong interpersonal and team working skills, sound judgment and decision-making skills.
- Ability to maintain strong network relations to stakeholders within a global organization
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to understand technical problems in design, engineering, and operation of machines and processes and to identify material-based solutions.
- Ability to work on multiple projects in a highly structured and organized manner.
- Good knowledge of MS Office Suite (e.g. Excel, Power Point, Copilot).
- Willingness to travel up to 30% to our locations, factories and construction sites worldwide

In Austria we are legally obliged to announce at least a gross monthly salary of €4.545,33 for this position. Depending on qualifications and professional experience we offer you a market-based salary.
