Mechanical Team Lead
Charlotte, NC - hybrid
Summary of the role
To support the strong market demand for our products and services, we are looking for a mechanical team leader to oversee a group of engineers and drafters, guiding them in project planning, execution, and problem-solving. More specifically, the successful candidate will work on the design of hydromechanical equipment for hydroelectric installations, coordinating tasks and allocation of resources to respect quality standards and project deadlines. This candidate will foster team collaboration, mentoring of team members, and communication with company stakeholders to ensure alignment of department objectives.
The following responsibilities form the core of this role:
- Lead a team of engineers and drafters to complete the design of turbine and generator components to meet specification requirements while optimizing costs over the project cycle;
- Set team objectives, manage workflow and priorities, and ensure assigned project portfolio design is completed on time and within budget;
- Participate in design reviews with the aid of the technical subject matter experts;
- Provide support manufacturing, workshop testing, installation and commissioning of systems;
- Review designs and technical documentation, with major document approvals performed by technical subject matter experts;
- Drive team development, staffing, evaluations, and maintenance of tools and design practices;
- Participate in problem solving and root cause identification;
- Participate in the planning of engineering activities related to the portfolio of projects on which he/she is assigned and report progress to internal project team;
- Follow-up on engineering plan with designers, update and determine needed actions to mitigate impacts.
- Set work priorities and adjust as needed (with input from project team / management as needed) when conflicts occur.
- Assist the estimating department in determining engineering hours and execution strategy as required.

- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering;
- Professional Engineer license preferred;
- Five (5) - Ten (10) years in refurbishment or design of hydroelectric turbine or in design and repair of heavy mechanical structure (pulp and paper, mining, etc.);
- Manufacturing experience (welding, machining and/or casting) and site experience is a plus;
- Ability to lead and work in a team;
- Organized and adaptable;
- Displays leadership and strong interpersonal skills;
- Ability to manage several tasks simultaneously.
- Solutions focused while managing the needs of both internal and external customers.
- Excellent written and oral communication abilities;
- Able to provide feedback and guidance to team members;
- Results-driven and committed to continuous improvement;
- CAD proficiency required (Siemens NX preferred)
- Knowledge of MS Office suite, and relevant IT tools;
- 10-15% travel domestically and abroad as required;
