The Role
Under the direction of Manager of Electrical & Automation , the Sr. Controls Engineer is responsible for Typical projects include all aspects relating to industrial furnaces to steel, aluminum and strip processing manufacturers. Typical project scope includes combustion/controls upgrades, furnace rebuilds, field service, and complete equipment design/supply/install/commissioning.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Key Result Items
- Overall project technical responsibility and coordination.
- Larger Projects (above $300k), this position would include a Senior role as a lead engineer.
- Development of equations representing physical systems with translation to computer code.
- Technical specification and requisition writing.
- Fabrication and panel instructions.
- Attend customer technical meetings.
- Develop and maintain project work schedules.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
- Must have initiative. Will work independently and collectively. Must possess a strong desire to learn and build technical knowledge.
- Domestic and international travel is required including potential for longer duration travel associated with startup/commissioning duties. Must be physically capable to perform required activities associated with onsite work

Education and Experience
- B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or Automation Engineering preferred. Experienced Automation Technologists will be considered.
- NFPA 86 guidelines with regard to electrical design requirements.
- Minimum ten years’ experience with Rockwell ControLogix PLC and HMI systems for automated machine control. Experience with Siemens S7 PLC and VFD equipment.
- Must have field checkout and startup experience in an industrial environment, preferably with combustion and material handling equipment.
- Skilled in the use of the following software: RSLogix, RSView, Wonderware, Siemens Step 7.
- Familiar with electronic interface systems such as Ethernet, Device Net, and Profibus between PLC systems, VFD and MCC equipment, and HMI computers.
- A self-starter capable of working independently, as well as within a multi-disciplined project team environment.
- Must have good skills in maintaining vendor and customer relationships.
- Problem solving skills with the ability to become hands on involved when needed.
- Strong communication, organizing, planning, and inter-personal skills.
- Willing and able to travel for commissioning both domestically and internationally.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft office products.
