We are at the forefront of future engineering technologies, with solutions that ensure the success of our clients in key industries that are shaping the future of the world we live in.

The Furnace Aftermarket Team concentrates on spare parts, service and revamping of existing ANDRITZ METALS furnace equipment as well as competitors’ equipment.

As the Sales Application Engineer, you are part of our Furnace Aftermarket Team. You will be supporting the department in detailing spare parts needs, designing rebuilds/retrofits, and providing services to industrial type equipment in the carbon and non-ferrous industries primarily in North America.

Goals and Responsibilities:

  • Develop accurate, timely estimates and quotations for spare parts, service work, and rebuild/retrofit scopes, aligned with customer requirements.
  • Review RFQs, drawings, and specifications; clarify scope, assumptions, and exclusions with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare cost models including material, labor, subcontract, freight, and contingency; validate lead times and feasibility with engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers.
  • Support technical sales by recommending solutions, preparing proposal write-ups, and presenting value propositions that differentiate ANDRITZ offerings.
  • Coordinate internal bid reviews to ensure commercial/technical compliance, margin targets, and risk identification (scope gaps, schedule, warranty, and payment terms).
  • Maintain quotation documentation in CRM/ERP systems (e.g., SAP), track RFQ status, and provide updates to sales forecasts based on active opportunities.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of furnace systems and/or industrial thermal processing (components, terminology, typical failure modes) sufficient to define scope and recommend solutions.
  • Experience developing estimates/quotations for industrial equipment, aftermarket parts, field service, or retrofit/rebuild projects.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, BOMs, and technical specifications; translate requirements into billable scope, assumptions, and deliverables.
  • Costing and commercial skills: pricing strategy, margin awareness, basic contract terms, and understanding of risk drivers (schedule, access, field conditions, and warranty).
  • Strong attention to detail and sense of urgency; able to manage multiple RFQs simultaneously while maintaining estimate quality and version control.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for customer clarifications, proposal language, and internal handoff to project execution teams.
  • Customer-focused, consultative approach with the ability to build credibility by combining technical understanding with commercial responsiveness.
  • Strong data organization skills; proficient with Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and able to learn ERP/CRM tools quickly for quote tracking and documentation.
  • Comfortable participating in customer meetings (in person or virtual) to review scope, assumptions, and commercial/technical questions.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills to identify missing information, drive clarifications, and develop practical estimating approaches for non-standard requests.
  • Experience coordinating across engineering, service, purchasing, and operations to build complete proposals and align on execution approach.
  • Understanding of consultative/technical sales processes for engineered products, including multi-stakeholder alignment and post-quote follow-up support.
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills to manage bid schedules, approvals, and smooth handoff from sales to execution.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time visiting customers and other ANDRITZ facilities.

Qualifications:

  • BS degree in industrial or mechanical engineering
  • 8+ years of engineering in an industrial environment
  • Prior industrial furnace or relevant industrial equipment or process experience
  • Prior metals industry experience a plus
  • Must be fluent in Microsoft Office
  • Fluency in SAP preferred
