Field Service Combustion Engineer

ANDRITZ seeks an experinced Furnace Field Service Combustion Engineer to join our team at ANDRITZ Metals USA, a leading OEM in the metals industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in combustion systems, safety standards, and furnace tuning. As a Combustion Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient and safe operation of our industrial furnaces, contributing to the production of high-quality metal products.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance, inspection, and troubleshooting of combustion systems, burners, and associated equipment within industrial furnaces.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to assist in the design and installation of combustion systems for new and existing furnaces.
  • Conduct combustion system tuning and optimization to achieve optimal energy efficiency, productivity, and emissions control.
  • Monitor and analyze furnace performance data, identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary adjustments to maintain product quality and production targets.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety standards, regulations, and protocols related to combustion processes, including fire safety, hazardous material handling, and emergency shutdown procedures.
  • Perform regular safety checks on equipment, maintain safety documentation, and participate in safety training initiatives.
  • Coordinate with maintenance and operations teams to schedule and execute maintenance activities, minimizing downtime and maximizing furnace availability.
  • Collaborate with external service providers when necessary for specialized maintenance or repairs.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment inspections, and calibration procedures.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in combustion systems, safety protocols, and furnace operation.
  • Train junior technicians and provide guidance to operational staff on safe and efficient combustion system operation.
     

Qualifications and Skills

  • An engineering degree in a relevant technical field is required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience working as a Combustion Engineer in an industrial setting, preferably within the metals industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of combustion systems, burners, and related equipment, including practical experience in tuning and optimization.
  • Strong understanding of safety standards, protocols, and regulations applicable to industrial combustion processes.
  • Familiarity with various furnace types (e.g., reheat, tunnel, walking beam) and their unique combustion requirements.
  • Proficiency in interpreting technical manuals, schematics, and engineering drawings.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues effectively.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate across various departments and levels of the organization.
  • Certifications in combustion safety or relevant areas are a plus.
  • Experience with data analysis and proficiency in using relevant software tools for monitoring and optimizing combustion systems.
