ANDRITZ Metals USA designs, builds and services equipment for the processing of carbon steel, stainless steel, and non-ferrous metal.  Processing equipment includes pickling lines, coating lines, precision levelers, cut to length lines, slitting lines as well as continuous or batch furnaces for reheating slabs, blooms, billets, and structural shapes. We specialize in supplying knives for metal processing equipment including shear blades, slitting knives and slitting spacers.  We also provide mill and coil processing equipment rebuild and retrofits.  Additionally, we provide service parts and roll and knife regrind services for rolling mills and strip metal processors and provide a wide range of mechanical and electrical components for ANDRITZ equipment, as well as for many other brands in the industry. 

 The Role

Under the direction of  VP of Operations , the Plant Manager is responsible for directing and managing plant operations with overall responsibilities for production, maintenance, QHSE and other production related activities.  The Plant Manager will coordinate activities with plant foreman and office personnel to insure that total manufacturing and safety objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost effective manner.  This role will also lead and direct the manufacturing team in collaboration with QHSE Manager to maintain an accident free work site and committing to the Andritz NO HARM pledge.   

Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Key Result Items

  • Must excel at working with and creating a team environment with a major focus on safety.
  • Direct and coordinate the activities of employees engaged in the production of products and services.  Coordination of employees will be through foremen and supervisors who interface with inspectors, machinists, assembly fitters, roll grinders and fabricators.
  • Read and analyze workload charts and production schedules, to efficiency develop and execute production schedules with production department.
  • Provide technical guidance to foremen and supervisors as well as interpret specifications and drawings during production execution.
  • Build, motivate and develop the plant leadership team to provide effective oversight and individual growth.
  • Coordinate employee training on assembly techniques, equipment operation, work processes, and procedures for new employees or developing employees.
  • Coordinate and direct the annual equipment preventative maintenance program and execute capital investment expenditures and projects.
  • Help develop and monitor plant budgets and capital expenditures budgets.
  • Collaborate with foreman, supervisors and the Human Resources team to resolve worker problems, complaints, or grievances.
  • Collaborate with the Human Resources team to maintain the required work force.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures as well as interpret for foremen, supervisors and workers, ensuring full compliance with Andritz policies within the area of influence.
  • Team with Procurement to achieve required delivery of needed shop supplies and materials.

 

Experience and Education

  • A very strong mechanical aptitude and background is required, with a thorough knowledge of equipment assembly, fitting practices and machining.
  • Proficient with production processes, quality control, cost management, and lean manufacturing.
  • Experienced in planning and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals.
  • Experience with managing in a union environment
  • Working knowledge of budgets and financial statements
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems including SAP
  • A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of related supervisory experience is preferred. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, equivalent work experience with combination of education will be considered.
  • Proven track record of progressive career advancement marked by increasing levels of responsibility within a manufacturing environment. Candidates should demonstrate a strong drive for results, adaptability to evolving challenges, and a history of contributing to workplace safety, operational excellence and team leadership.
