Position Summary
Performs mechanical repair, process startup, and customer training of Andritz supplied equipment located at customer facilities. Provides customers with operational and mechanical technical assistance for existing installations. Trains new company service technicians. Responsible for in-house assembly, fabrication, modification, welding, and repair of new or second-hand equipment, as well as rebuilds of customer-owned equipment when not performing field service activities. Fabricates, modifies, and repairs structural and mechanical metal components using welding, cutting, grinding, and metalworking techniques in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards. Works effectively in a team-oriented environment, collaborating with service technicians, engineers, production personnel, and customers to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality project execution. Ensures equipment reliability, safety, and performance while maintaining a high level of workmanship and customer satisfaction.
Primary Responsibilities - Field Service
• Perform mechanical service, equipment installation verification, checkout, startup, troubleshooting, repair, welding, and fabrication activities on Andritz-supplied equipment at customer facilities and in-house.
• Fabricate, modify, repair, and rebuild structural steel, mechanical components, and customer-owned equipment using approved welding and metalworking processes, including MIG, TIG, Stick (SMAW), and Flux-Core welding.
• Inspect, fit, align, assemble, and repair components by reading and interpreting blueprints, fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and technical specifications.
• Coordinate field service and repair activities with technical personnel and customers to ensure safe, efficient, and timely project execution.
• Perform field welding, maintenance, and emergency repair work during installations, outages, startups, and service calls.
• Ensure all work meets company, customer, quality, and safety standards, including proper use of PPE and compliance with applicable hot work and site safety requirements.
• Maintain welding, fabrication, and service equipment in safe working condition and keep work areas organized.
• Prepare service reports, repair documentation, and supporting records for project tracking and billing purposes.
• Assist with spare parts recommendations, technical support, inventory planning, and repair services.
• Support the training and development of service technicians.
• Travel as required, up to 85% annually.
Secondary Responsibilities - Machine Builder
• Perform as required, in-house repair work or new equipment assembly
• Assist in the maintenance of all rental / pilot units.
• Assist as required with spare parts, equipment, and repair orders.
• Assist as needed in test trials (setting up, assisting in running the tests, and cleanup)
• Perform quality control procedures and inspection on subcontracted and vendor items.

Basic Skills
• Good mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and weld symbols.
• Basic welding and fabrication knowledge (MIG, TIG, Stick, and Flux-Core).
• Knowledge of metal cutting, fitting, grinding, and assembly practices.
• Mechanical and process knowledge of Andritz-manufactured equipment.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Computer skills: Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel.
• Ability to work independently, safely, and in a team environment.
Specialized Job Skills:
• Must be able to use hand tools, power tools, and welding/fabrication equipment with well-developed mechanical aptitude.
• Must be able to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication specifications.
• Proficient in MIG, TIG, Stick (SMAW), and Flux-Core welding processes.
• Skilled in metal fabrication, fitting, cutting, grinding, and assembly of structural and mechanical components.
• Ability to use precision measuring instruments and perform quality inspections.
• Experience performing welding repairs and equipment modifications in industrial environments.
• Ability to identify, order, and manage required materials, welding consumables, gases, and tooling necessary to complete assigned work efficiently.
• Knowledge of the safe handling, storage, and transportation of compressed gas cylinders, welding equipment, and related materials in compliance with OSHA and company safety requirements.
• Welding certifications (AWS or equivalent) a plus.
Physical Demands:
• The physical demands of this position require the ability to walk, sit, stand, kneel, crouch, and work in confined spaces for extended periods of time.
• Must be physically able to lift a minimum of 75 pounds and have the dexterity to bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive hand and arm movements for extended periods.
• Must be able to climb ladders, scaffolding, and elevated structures and maintain balance on catwalks, platforms, and uneven surfaces.
• Must be capable of performing welding, grinding, cutting, fitting, and fabrication activities in both shop and field environments.
• Must be able to work in varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, dust, noise, and outdoor industrial settings.
• Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including welding helmet, safety glasses, face shield, welding gloves, respirator (when required), hearing protection, steel-toed boots, hard hat, fall protection equipment, and flame-resistant (FR) clothing for extended periods.
• Must be able to safely handle, transport, and work around welding equipment, compressed gas cylinders, and fabrication materials in accordance with company and OSHA safety requirements.
